I’ll keep this one short and sweet.
This blog exists in part because of my grandmother. In early December she called me, asking what I wanted for Christmas. At the time I was in the process of moving back from Vancouver bag by bag, in preparation for moving to India; my stuff was weighing heavily on me. So I told her that if she gave me $40, I would have a great weekend adventure in India and tell her the story. The rest of my family picked this up; I’ve got a few weekend trips and a few stories in the pipeline as a result.
Somewhat selfishly, this blog also exists to create a record of my time in India. After previous trips I’ve returned home, gigabytes of photos in hand and my head full of stories. Over time the stories fade, the unusual remaining while the rest are distilled into simpler elements; flashes of imagery and vague and disjointed emotions. My thoughts, in the moment tangible, omnipresent, are pushed aside as I continue on to explore new unfamiliar places; eventually lost when I return home. For me this blog is a way to safeguard these treasures, to keep imagery, story and emotion connected. It is also a way to share unexpected twists and turns and the joys of traveling.
Simply put: this will be a place to tell travel stories; a place for family, friends and anyone interested to follow along as I explore. Thank you for reading.
